I have an unused Atari Portfolio that I bought a few years ago and I’m thinking as using it as Linux Terminal plugged by RS232 on a Raspberry Pi. I found i need a MAX3232 thing like that on the Pi to add a serial port but for now I can’t find a Serial Interface for my Atari Portfolio, only Parallel Interfaces… I’ll see if one pop up on ebay in the coming weeks…
(There’s a tiny program that sends Xterm2 to the Portfolio over the serial port it seems, not sure how that work out… or what is this Xterm2 exactly. — Is it a terminal emulator like the Xterm on Linux? Does that let you transfer files then ? Dunno — I know usually you need the parallel interface to transfer files to the Portfolio because the integrated software to transfer files only support the Parallel interface. I tried to find again a page explaining how to use the Portfolio as a Linux Terminal I saw once but couldn’t… yet.)
edit: found that post i was looking for http://portfolio.wz.cz/download//KOMUNIKA.CE/COM/APTERM/apt_main.htm
edit 2: okay.. xterm2 is a “Terminal Emulator With XMODEM File Transfer Ver II” so… there’s file transfer.
